Challenging the Conscience of Demonstrators & Human Rights Activists in Papua
There is a very painful irony. While demonstrators in Intan Jaya and Yahukimo resisted the presence of the apparatus and development, armed separatist groups (OPM) massacred inland residents, isolated them, and deprived them of their only access to life through the action of "creating conditions".
On Thursday afternoon, July 2, 2026, OPM publicly claimed to have shot down the pilot and burned down the pilot aircraft of PT AMA. They also threatened to attack all other civilian aircraft. This aircraft was founded by the first Bishop of Jayapura, Mgr. R. Staverman, OFM, and purely devoted to the health and education of the rural community for *67 years* (since March 23, 1959).
Whose heart is not broken to see the video of indigenous Papuans crying hysterically in front of the charred wreckage of the plane? The cry was the loss ofmedicine and life expectancy in the remote mountains. The pilot's family also asked: why should a humanitarian hero who came unarmed go home in a coffin?
Bishop Jayapura has strongly condemned this tragedy. But ironically, figures like Frits Ramandey and demonstrators who are usually the most outspoken in chanting “ham” and demanding the withdrawal of the apparatus, are *mute and lose empathy* when OPM attacks Church workers and military posts (June 29 by the Okto Tigau group), to the point of killing pilots of humanitarian missions.
The silence continued when the terror escalation targeted vulnerable civilians on July 2, 2026. That night a pregnant woman * MelkianaDwitau *, died as a living shield. The distance of the victim was only *321 meters* from the OPM's first firing point, while the authorities withstood the gunfire for the safety of the residents.
Sane logic asks:
* Whose human rights are you defending? *
Shouting justice in the streets, but mute as logistic planes are set on fire, pregnant women killed, and civilians felled by TPNPB stray bullets-that's the cruelest *hypocrisy of humanity*.
Stop sacrificing innocent civilian lives for outdated political propaganda.
